HELPING YOU MAKE BETTER
MEASUREMENTS.
The company founder,
Bruce Bugbee, began
using small, inexpensive
devices to measure
environmental changes as a Ph.D. graduate
student
at Penn State University (1978 to 1981).
These interests lead to the use
of photodiodes
to measure different types of radiation in plant
canopies.
In 1995, he began making light meters for use
by colleagues in the Plant Science and Biology Departments at
Utah State University. Faculty
found these
meters to be highly useful and requests soon came from Universities
around the country. The prototype meter went through several
versions in the winter of 1995 to make it more durable and accurate
and in
the Spring of 1996 Apogee Instruments, Inc. was born with the
introduction
of the
basic quantum meter.
